🕯️ Lest We Forget

As November arrives, Molesey pauses to honour the men and women from our streets who never came home. Their sacrifice is a reminder that even these quiet corners of the Thames have felt the reach of war. Bombs fell on Hurst Park and Matham Road; evacuees filled our schools; families waited by the wireless for news that would change everything. Later conflicts — from World War II to more recent engagements — continued to touch our community, shaping lives, families, and the town we call home.

More than a century after the Great War, their stories, and those of all who served, continue to shape our memory — of courage, sacrifice, and a community that endures.

Molesey Local History Society is a great resource for the local area, they run in person events, and have a wealth of knowledge to share. A beautifully illustrated book “Hampton Court Bridge through the ages” has recently been published. Click here for the website

LOCAL NEWS

East Molesey’s Pavilion Club set to close: Let’s rally around our community

After many years as a hub for sport, leisure, and childcare, The Pavilion Club is closing at the end of December following its sale to a new owner. For decades, it has been a place where families, friends, and neighbours have come together — and its closure will be felt by many in our community.

1. Standing Together
While it’s sad to say goodbye to a local landmark, now is the time for our community to come together. Many staff members and nursery families will be affected, and supporting them through this change is something we can all do.

2. Helping Those Affected

  • Many people will soon be looking for new work — if you know of local job openings, please reach out.

  • Families who relied on the nursery “Little Crickets” will need new childcare options. Let’s share recommendations for available places and help each other through the transition.

3. Local activities & businesses are here for you

  • Other local nurseries, swim schools, sports, and fitness classes are ready to welcome families and keep routines going. The Nugget is here to help them spread the word.

  • By choosing these local options, we can help make these businesses sustainable and vibrant, and keep the money we spend circulating in our community.

Even though the Pavilion Club doors are closing, the spirit of our community doesn’t have to. Social groups, sports teams, and informal meet-ups can continue, and by standing together, we can help families, staff, and local businesses thrive.

Eels on the move: Molesey Lock marks another year of river hope

Well done to all the fantastic citizen science volunteers who helped the South East Rivers Trust check the eel monitoring trap at Molesey Lock this year! 🐟

They were thrilled to discover one last eel when removing the trap this week – bringing the 2025 total to 36 eels. Each one is a tiny champion, a story of resilience and hope for the rivers.

From April, they’ll be back at the lock with the South East Rivers Trust, following these incredible creatures on their remarkable upstream journey once again. Want to get involved ? More info here

🎄 The Molesey Nugget Christmas To-Do List

Every year I make a big list of festive jobs — from ordering the turkey to remembering where I hid the wrapping paper.

This year, I thought I’d share it properly and turn it into The Molesey Nugget Christmas To-Do List — a printable checklist of everything to get done before the big day.

It’ll include the usual reminders, plus some local bits — last dates for ordering, local Christmas market dates, posting deadlines, and space for your own notes too.

Before I spend an evening by the fire making it look pretty, I’d love to know what you think: Your clicks will help me decide whether to make it!
